Tariff on Chinese imports will hurt US investors.

October 7, 2010

Tariff on Chinese imports will hurt more than poor Americans who shop at Wal-Mart. A trade war with a billion Chinese will hurt American investors. Paul R. Krugman, an economist from Princeton thinks otherwise. He is the darling of Congress who believes that tariff on cheap Chinese products will actually help our economy (Bloomberg Businessweek, September 27, 2010, p8), and so does senator Schumer from New York, and I am afraid so would most conventional thinkers. Circling the wagons is in the American tradition, a relic from the Wild West applied to “protect” our trade.

Robert Frost’s poem about the Road Not Taken comes to mind. Messing up with imports is the lackluster road most politicians and economists take, yet, gentlemen, why not think for a moment about exports, the road you rarely take. Don’t you think we need to balance our intellectual traffic for a change? Think Exports, not Imports for a minute! Do we want to export unskilled or semi-skilled American jobs abroad? Yes! Let others have them, they need to feed their uneducated masses. Do we want to keep skilled American jobs at home? Yes! Our Community Colleges have spent our tax payers money to train them. Then target American companies and slap them with a 25% Surtax on every  skilled job they export! Do we want China to import free our Know How that took 200 years to develop and perfect? No! Then slap a 25% Surtax on the $30,000,000,000.00 per year export of American machinery and high-tech blueprints!

I know it’s election year and politicians get elected by using anti Chinese rhetoric, and economists get stature and tenure by promoting tariff on Chinese goods, but think of the poor Americans who shop at Wal-Mart. Am I kidding? Of course, Wal-Mart shoppers isn’t really the point. Being pro-American rather than Anti Chinese is the point.

Dear Beula Sanders, thank you for the compliment. I am glad you noticed the difference between my blog and other blogs. I give out information in a way that will help people experience their inner magnificence and improve their business of living. I tell it like it is, no “politically correct” bull…. I am glad people read my blog in dynamic Germany. We need new thinking in the world. I am in Canada but I get more acknowledgment for my useful albeit maverick information from Europe than from America.
